Standard work (called Standardized Work at
Toyota) is one of the cornerstones in a Lean System: in order to achieve a
balanced work flow and high quality product, work must be standardized at
all operations for maximum consistency and efficiency.
Successful standardization of work
processes helps ensure high quality product, employee morale, customer
satisfaction, workplace safety, and minimize loss of experience from
employment changes.
The objective is to clearly communicate to
the operator exactly how a task should be performed. Variability is
eliminated through analysis of the operation: by eliminating "tweaking of
the process", searching for tools and parts, excess movements, and
double-handling.
Once you have a definition of the process,
continuous improvement actions can then further be implemented –removing
additional inefficiency. This presentation will focus on the four stages of
Standard Work, how to right size your standard work, how to test, and how to
move forward.
